Open up, ancient gates!

Threshold of Glory

I adore Jennie Lee Riddle.  When we found out that she was a Selah fan and that she had a folder full of songs just for us we were elated.  So we told her to please send them to us.  From the very second I heard this song I knew it was ours.  There’s something so powerful about the music and the drums; it’s so passionate.  I asked Jennie to explain how she came to write it and she said:

“I had just finished sharing the scripture Psalm 24:7-9:

7. Open up, ancient gates! Open up, ancient doors, and let the King of glory enter. 8. Who is the King of glory? The Lord, strong and mighty; the Lord, invincible in battle. 9. Open up, ancient gates! Open up, ancient doors, and let the King of glory enter.

…and we were in the middle of live worship on the platform in one of those beautiful lingering moments of God’s presence when Crystal began singing ‘We push back the gates, we open the door, together we come to meet with You, Lord.’  We sang it over and over.  Once home, we couldn’t get it out of our heart.  The Yates and I finished the song one afternoon when it would just not stop begging to be written. I love the way it carries us right over the threshold of ourselves to our Magnificent One who is full of mercy and favor.”

I love that Jennie writes things that my heart wants to say but I can’t put into words. She truly is so gifted and I’m honored to get to sing her music.
